Sustainability is becoming increasingly prominent on corporate agendas. Once considered a matter of compliance, it is currently viewed as a key to increasing efficiency and a source of competitive advantage as consumer demands for sustainability rise. While 90% of executives acknowledge its importance, only 60% of companies have a sustainability strategy in place. This gap underscores a growing need for leaders who can translate sustainability ambition into a measurable impact. Hence, there is a strong need for Chief Sustainability Officers to interpret changes in the external sustainability environment, assess their strategic implications, and define a corporate strategy to address them effectively. The Chief Sustainability Officer is responsible for an organization’s sustainability objectives and initiatives, including driving data-informed decision-making and leading the implementation of sustainable strategies across the enterprise.
